October 5, 2007, Newsletter Issue #58: Professional Development Units Explained

Tip of the Week

Professional development units are a way for teachers to continue to improve their professional education. This is sometimes known as continuing professional development. The idea is that teachers continue to learn skills that make them more effective as teachers. In some countries and some American states, professional development units are mandatory for teachers to remain registered as teachers. Teachers may complete a preliminary teaching qualification, but then have to update this at specified intervals. An example of this is the Clear Credential teaching certificate in California.
